A CENTURY of history will be celebrated by former members of a local Boys' Brigade.

The 5th Halifax (Elland) Company of the Boys' Brigade will be marking its centenary with a weekend of events next month.

As part of the celebrations - organised by a committee of former members - there will be an exhibition of memorabilia and photos from throughout the last century of the brigade.

The celebrations kick off on Sunday, March 18, with a coffee morning at Southgate Methodist Church, Elland, between 10am and 11.30am.

Then from 2pm to 4pm the memorabilia exhibition will be open at the former home of the company, Savage Hall in Elland.

In the evening a reunion buffet reception will be at Bankfield Social Club, formerly called Elland Liberal Club.

There will be a charge for the reception.

On Sunday, March 19 there will be a thanksgiving celebration service at Southgate Methodist Church.

The preacher will be the Rev Anne Smith, née Greet, who is a former company chaplain. She is coming from Worcester to take the service.

Before the church service there will be a parade of old boys and present company members, led by a specially recalled Old Boys Band.

The parade will assemble at 1.50pm in Eastgate, outside the old Weslyan Church.

Any former members of the company who have memorabilia items to loan or who would like more information about the reunion should phone John Fox on 01422 250069.
