FUNDRAISERS have been thanked for their efforts to improve a community building in Longwood.

The Rev Jim Hunt, vicar of Longwood, made his comments when he opened the Christmas fair at St Mark's Parish Hall and Community Centre.

Local volunteers worked to provide the centre with a new disabled toilet.

The plans for the facility were drawn up by Antony Dearden.

Craig Watson, Alan Cromwell, Allan and Janet Clarkson and Graham Purnell built, fitted out and decorated the facility.

The centre is used for a variety of church and community events, including a Christmas lunch for the elderly.

Spokeswoman Janet Watson said the new toilet was the second phase of a refurbishment programme planned for the centre.

Volunteers and fundraisers have already raised thousands of pounds for a new roof and kitchen refit.

Work should start early in the new year.
