A MEMORIAL prize named after a student who tragically died in 2004 was handed out at Huddersfield University.

Cerise McAlister, 21, from Blackburn was awarded the Zoe Crowther Memorial Award for outstanding achievements, and is in her second year studying Creative Textile Crafts.

The award is a tribute to Zoe, a student of the University and mother of two, who died in a car-crash on the M1 in August 2004 on the night of her wedding to Paul Williams.

Zoe’s best friend Tara Walsh, 34, from Moldgreen, presented the award to Cerise, and said: “Cerise realised that the award is quite an honour, and was thrilled to receive it.

“The University has plans for a permanent memorial, but is keeping it on hold until the building work on campus is done.

“They have been brilliant, and it is fitting that Zoe is remembered in this way.”
