People are to get the chance to support the work of Kirkwood Hospice following the launch of its new Sunflower Memories Appeal.

The Dalton-based Hospice is inviting the public to make a donation in memory of someone special.

The names of those being remembered will be written on sunflower plaques which will be ‘planted’ in the Hospice gardens.

People will have the opportunity to view their sunflower on Saturday, 28 June.

Those who contribute to the appeal can take their flower home on the day to keep as a permanent reminder of their loved one.

The appeal is being backed by Armitages Garden Centres in Birchencliffe and Shelley, and Kingsmill Carpets.

Noreen Williams, Ward Sister at Kirkwood, said: “We are really excited to be launching the inaugural Sunflower Memories Appeal.

“It will be a poignant and wonderful occasion with the Kirklees community coming together to remember and celebrate the lives of loved ones.

“As well as allowing people to celebrate happy memories, the appeal will help us to raise vital funds.

“We see at first hand the difference our care makes to the quality of life for more than 1,800 patients and their families every year.

“It is a real privilege to be part of the nursing team.

“Without the support of the community, we simply could not do what we do.

“We hope everybody will get behind this appeal and help us to continue providing care and support for our patients and their families when they need it the most.”
