FISHING gear worth hundreds of pounds is being given as prizes in a competition organised by police.
West Yorkshire Police's annual fishing competition is now in its 12th year and attracts entries from all over the country.
The idea behind the event is to get youngsters hooked on fishing, not anti-social behaviour or crime.
It will take place along the Calder and Hebble canal in Horbury Bridge, between Huddersfield and Wakefield, on August 6. There are categories for under-18s and under-15s.
The organiser, West Yorkshire Police photographer David Speight, said: "This really is a great family day out for everyone.
"People are very welcome to come along to support their children."
David said: "This competition is always a popular one and in previous years we have had entrants from all as far afield as Nottingham and Manchester."
Anyone wanting to enter should ring Ann Shaw on 01924 292245 or e-mail U18sfishingmatch@aol.com
The entry fee is £2 - payable on the day - which is donated to the Martin House Children's Hospice in Boston Spa, near Wetherby.
