THE developers behind a controversial scheme to build a new pub and hotel on Castle Hill have put in revised plans.

The Thandi Partnership has submitted an application to rebuild the pub, hotel and restaurant to Kirklees Council.

And planning officials and councillors will consider the new application over the coming weeks - despite another plan being the subject of a Government inquiry.

The partnership has been forced to stop building work on the new pub and hotel atop the famous landmark after falling foul of planning regulations.

Officials enforced a stop notice on the work and the matter has been referred to a public inquiry.

It is expected that the inquiry, chaired by a Government inspector, will take place in mid-December.

But the new application will have to be considered on its merits.

Planning officers will be seeking views and comments on the new application from all interested parties very soon.

Senior planning officer Bill Topping said: "The new application is an amended version of one submitted some months back.

"It is for a new building on the site of the former pub, hotel and restaurant.

"The previous application w as somewhat misleading and we asked for a revised plan, which has now been submitted.

"The Thandi Partnership has offered to reduce the height of the building - which is one of the points covered by the previous enforcement notice - and said part of the building will use old stone.

"Because it is a new building in Green Belt there have to be special circumstances. I am waiting for a submission from the partnership as to what those may be."

Under planning law, this new application will have to be determined by Kirklees councillors within 13 weeks.

The already erected steel framework will stay untouched until the row is settled.
