Leaders at Salendine Nook High School have wasted no time since their disappointing Ofsted report.

After being rated as 3-Requires Improvement in December, senior leaders and governors have set about implementing changes.

At a recent monitoring visit, inspectors praised them for the speed of their action stating: “Senior leaders and governors have responded quickly to the outcomes of the inspection. They are clear about what needs to be achieved in the coming months.

“They have high expectations of all staff and are focused on improving the quality of teaching and learning and the effectiveness of leadership and management and governance. Senior leaders have moved promptly to revise the policy on marking and feedback.”

The academy has employed two consultants to support specific developments, one to work with science and the other to support improvements in teaching and learning and in governance. There are currently still two vacancies for governors.

In addition, an intervention team has been created to focus exclusively on the progress and achievement of students eligible for the pupil premium. The team will decide what additional support is needed to help disadvantaged students achieve their potential.

Inspectors recommended that the academy amends its development plan to include discreet monitoring and a definition of the governors’ role, and to plan staff training as a matter of urgency - and this should include school-to-school support.
