My colleague Andy Hirst says traffic has been queueing back as far as Scammonden but should be clearing now as three vehicles are moved onto the hard shoulder.
I’ve just spoken to West Yorkshire Police and they say thankfully there have been no injuries in a three vehicle collision on the Eastbound carriageway of the M62 at Junction 23, Outlane, near the Old Golfhouse Hotel.
Police were called at 7pm and the Force Duty Inspector says the vehicles are now on the hard shoulder and “we are working to clear it now.”
Two lanes closed and queueing traffic due to accident on M1 Southbound between J41 A650 (Carrgate) and J40 A638 (Ossett/Wakefield), congestion to J42 M62 (Lofthouse).
Initially three lanes were closed. Lanes three and four (of four) remain closed.

And there's congestion westbound too

"Quicker to fly from Ibiza than to drive on the M62"
I’d rather sit on a Ryanair flight with hungover rowdy teenagers on their way back from a week in Ibiza than face the M62 right now.
All lanes have now re-opened
Reports say all lanes are now back open but delays are to continue for a good while yet...
Update from police
Here’s the information we have from police on what’s happened on the M62.
A spokesperson said two separate accidents have occurred which has caused traffic to grind to a halt.
The first occurred on the eastbound carriage at 2.20pm near to Ainley Top. This involved two cars, one of which was a red Hyundai. One person has sustained minor injuries and police and an ambulance have been at the scene, although this has now been moved to the hard shoulder.
The second happened 20 minutes later around Hartshead Moor services and involved a HGV and a silver car. This has also now been moved to the hard shoulder and it’s not known whether anyone has been injured.
