A MAN, aged 24, appeared in court via video link today charged with the murder of Pc Sharon Beshenivsky.

Muzzaker Imtiaz Shah appeared before the Recorder of Leeds, Judge Norman Jones QC, for a 10-minute hearing.

Shah, of no fixed abode, is charged with the police officer's murder, the attempted murder of her colleague Pc Teresa Milburn, robbery and firearms offences.

Shah spoke only to confirm his name and that he understood today's proceedings at Leeds Crown Court.

A provisional trial date was set for June 12 next year, when Shah will appear alongside 19-year-old Yusuf Jama, who has also been charged in connection with the shootings in Bradford city centre.

The trial is scheduled to last four weeks.

Shah will next appear at Leeds Crown Court on March 22 for a plea and directions hearing. He was remanded in custody by the Recorder of Leeds and no application for bail was made.

Pc Beshenivsky and her colleague were gunned down as they investigated a robbery at a travel agent's in Morley Street, Bradford, on November 18.
