THE family of a musician who died of a brain tumour are holding a memorial concert for him.

Daniel Cox, 22, of Waterloo died last July.

But he left behind a legacy of music, community work and a family determined to help charities and organisations which supported Daniel during his illness.

Now his musician friends are taking to the stage to raise money for Clic Sargent – one of the charities that helped him.

Daniel’s sister, Denise Bryce, said: “There will be a lot of music and dancing and tributes.

“It will be a really lively event but tinged with sadness too.

“It will remember Daniel and raise money for Clic Sargent who really helped Daniel and the family when he was ill.

“They provided a support worker to drive him to and from the hospital for radiotherapy rather than him needing an ambulance.”

Daniel was diagnosed with the condition shortly before Christmas in 2007 and began radiotherapy in January 2008.

But he sadly died in late July.

He was known to thousands of young people in the town as MC WiZe and often spoke out against negative messages in rap music.

A former pupil of Almondbury High School, he was director of voluntary organisation Rhyme and Rhythm Productions which taught creative writing, hip hop and rap to young people.

He was also a volunteer with the Kirklees Youth Offending team.

He worked with the New Testament Church of God on Great Northern Street in Huddersfield, forming a childrens’ rap group called Lil Mysteries.

Denise added: “Clic Sargent arranged for us all to go on holiday, but Daniel was to ill to travel.

“This is our chance to thank them.

“In February we held a fundraiser for Kirkwood Hospice and this time we decided that we would support Clic Sargent.

“Daniel received support from other organisations such as Macmillan and I’m sure we’ll do something for them as well.”

Performing at the concert will be Lil Mysteries who he helped to form.

It will take place on Saturday, June 27, from 6.30pm at the New Testament Church of God.

Tickets cost £4 for over 17s, £2.50 for 13 to 16-year-olds and senior citizens and children under 12 go free.

Clic Sargent offers care and support during treatment, in hospital and at home and after treatment.

They provide specialist nurses and doctors, youth services, holidays, grants and a helpline.
