A CHARITY which helps alleviate the loneliness of elderly people is looking for volunteers.

Contact the Elderly is a national charity which provides companionship for people aged 75 or over who are lonely, live alone and are unable to easily get out of the house unaided.

There are currently 340 Contact the Elderly groups nationwide, including groups in Huddersfield and Mirfield.

Each group normally meets once a month at the home of a different host, giving the elderly members the chance to get out of their homes and meet new friends.

Without these groups, many older people would go for weeks without seeing any friends or family, but they need volunteers to help continue their good work.

The charity is currently looking for volunteer drivers and hosts so they can take out all their members.

Their campaign is being supported by TV presenter Jonathan Ross who appears in its appeal to find volunteers, being shown tomorrow at 5.05pm on BBC1.

To get involved as a driver once a month or to host a group twice a year for one of the groups, contact Mary Robinson on 01535 6332592, email mary.robinson@contact-the-elderly.org.uk or visit www.contact-the-elderly.org.uk
