A CHARITY is asking people to donate unwanted glasses for an appeal which has helped people in African countries.
Help the Aged wants to collect one million pairs of unwanted spectacles before April. And it is just 50,000 short for its campaign - launched 10 years ago.
The charity teamed up with World in Sight to help older people in developing countries reuse spectacles which Britons no longer have any use for.
The glasses have been cleaned and gra- ded by a trained team of inmates at HMP Erlestoke, Wiltshire.
Countries which have already benefited from the campaign include Cameroon, Ghana, Mauritius, South Africa, Sri Lanka, Sudan, Tanzania and Zimbabwe.
Unwanted glasses can be taken to Dolland and Aitchison or Help the Aged shops or posted to the World in Sight Appeal, Freepost, Lon13109, London N1 9BR.
