A STUDENT switched to horsepower to get to school and raise money for charity at the same time.

Charley Parkin and her mum Zoe spent an hour on horseback riding from their South Crosland home to Newsome High School and Sports College.

Eleven-year-old Charley and her mum rode horses Codie and Winston.

They arrived at 8.45am and were sponsored by staff, pupils and family to complete the journey.

They raised more than £100.

The school expects to raise hundreds of pounds for charity through a variety of events all in aid of Comic Relief.

This week they have organised a Miss World competition including male members of staff, a staff dodge ball competition, sponsored silences, cake and bun sales and fancy dress events.
