A Golcar woman has been fined and ordered to pay almost £600 – over the state of her garden.

Charlotte Richards was convicted in her absence of non-compliance after repeatedly failing to clear the waste in the garden of her home in Longfield Avenue.

Kirklees Council officers had issued a warning letter giving her 14 days to clear her garden.

However, that was ignored and a further notice was given which gave her 28 days to clear the waste and tidy up the mess.

The overgrown garden had been used to dump of kinds of rubbish.

After the 28 days, council officers took the case to prosecution at Kirklees Magistrates’ Court in Huddersfield.

Miss Richards was found guilty and fined £150 plus a £20 victim surcharge and £426 costs.

The court also granted an order giving her 28 days to clear the garden.

Failure to do so would render her liable for the cost of clearance by the council.

A council spokesman said the action should serve as a warning to others.
