CHART acts Ironik and The Yeah You’s are to play Party in the Park.

The two will support headliners McFly at this year’s free concert organised by Kirklees Council.

All will take to the stage in Crow Nest Park, Dewsbury, on Sunday, August 23.

The gig has been moved to Dewsbury because of work in Greenhead Park, where last year’s huge concert was staged.

McFly were announced as the headline act at the start of July. They will play the park after leaving the stage at The V Festival in Staffordshire.

Ironik (formerly DJ Ironik) has been on the music scene since he was 13, beginning his career as a club DJ. In the past year he has made a big impression on the music scene with hit singles Stay with Me and Tiny Dancer featuring Elton John and Chipmunk, which charted at number 3 in May.

The Yeah You’s are a British pop duo whose catchy single 15 minutes has become a favourite on local and national radio stations.

The duo, Mike Kintish and Nick Ingram, have been widely tipped for success and will be releasing their debut album this summer so will no doubt be trying a few of their new songs out on the crowd in Dewsbury.

The album was written in Mike’s bedroom and recorded in LA with Greg Wells (who has worked with Mika, Katy Perry & Rufus Wainwright).

Clr Kath Pinnock, Deputy Leader of Kirklees Council, said: “Our McFly announcement was met with lots of excitement – people are looking forward to coming to Dewsbury to see them and enjoy the show with their family and friends.

“I’m sure that these announcements will go down well and demonstrate this is an event not to be missed”.

Party in the Park will begin at 1pm with local bands and the main acts will be on stage from 4pm.

The local bands on stage will be chosen in the ALIVE Battle of the Bands contest.

The closing date for entries is Friday, July 17.

Local music industry judges will then select eight acts to perform at one of two heat competitions, taking place in early August.

It is being billed as a once in a lifetime opportunity for local musicians and a large number of entries have already come in.
