A chart-topping soul group is to bring the sounds of the 70s to Holmfirth Picturedrome this month.

The Real Thing, who reached No 1 on the UK Singles Chart with their song You to Me Are Everything, are to star at the Picturdrome on Friday, July 15, in a classic disco and 70s soul night.

The three original vocalists – Chris and Eddie Amoo and Dave Smith – will take to the stage with their own five-piece band in a performance that includes all their big hits.

The Liverpool soul singers are celebrating 40 years in the business and have sold three million singles with songs such as Can’t Get By Without You, Can You Feel the Force?, Whenever You Want My Love and You’ll Never Know What You’re Missing.

By number of sales, they were the most successful black rock/soul act in England during the 1970s. They toured internationally with David Essex, recording with him a number of popular songs. They were credited with helping to restore “Liverpool’s musical reputation in the 1970s” with their success.

In 1982 they returned to working with David Essex, performing as backing vocalists on his tour. Four years later, the band enjoyed a chart resurgence, thanks to the band’s massive following, with the remixing of several of their hits.

The band was launched in 1970 by Chris Amoo, Dave Smith, Kenny Davis and Ray Lake, and Chris’s brother, Eddie, joined them later.

Tickets for the 8pm show, priced at £22, are available from the Picturedrome in Market Walk, Holmfirth. Box Office No: 08444 780 898.
