HUDDERSFIELD shoppers got a surprise when they spotted a male stripper in Queensgate Market.

The stripper - known as The Hustler - was strutting his stuff through the walkways of the market as part of a promotional stunt for a club.

The Hustler, dressed in a white air officer's outfit and aviator shades, was promoting a forthcoming ladies' night at Deighton and Sheepridge Working Men's Club.

He was joined by club committee member Mary Rushworth, who was handing out leaflets about the November 15 event.

Ladies will be entertained at the Deighton Road club by UK champion stripper The Hustler, European champion Rebel Red and Black Stallion.

The event will be compered by Dave Chance and there will be a slave auction and raffle.

The night is part of an effort to bring more people into the club and turn it's fortunes around.

The club has been in serious financial trouble and has fought its way back to stability. But it is trying to prevent further problems by attracting new members through better entertainment and promotions.

The club roped in top promoter Harvey Goldsmith to give them help and advice.

Mary said: "We are hoping things like the ladies' night will bring in extra customers because we are trying to get the club back on its feet again.

"It has been a difficult time for the club but we have got ourselves through the worst.

"Now we want to build up the club, especially to attract more youngsters. It's been going 130 years and I don't want to see it go."

The ladies' night starts at 7pm and entry costs £5. Men are also welcome.
