THE new President, Mark Rojinsky, chaired the Huddersfield Chess Club's annual meeting at the Lindley Liberal Club.

The secretary, Nigel Hepworth, reported a successful season in which a second Congress had been held, and a junior club had been started.

The four team captains gave their reports for the season. The first team had finished in a creditable mid-table position, with special mention being made of the performance of Leo Keely on the top board.

The Knights team had to be content with retaining the Littlewood Shield, just losing out to Netherton in the play-off for the Watkinson Trophy. The handicap team had been losing finalists in the Challenge Cup. The decision to enter a team in the Calderdale league was judged to have been worthwhile.

Trophy winners were; club championship, R van Kemenade; Silver King, S Hatchett; H E Atkins Trophy, S Priest; Dransfield Cup, R S Boylan; Lindley Cup, L Keely.

The chief officials for next season were elected: president-elect, D Tooley; secretary, N R Hepworth; treasurer, J Lavan; team captains, D Tooley, R S Boylan, P Czerwinski and N R Hepworth.

Despite making a loss financially on the last congress, it was agreed that another one should be organised for next season.
