Volunteers in Huddersfield will be at the centre of fundraising for this year’s BBC Children in Need appeal.

Call centre staff at insurance firm LV= at Folly Hall Mills in St Thomas’ Road will be taking pledges over the phone.

LV=’s Bournemouth office has been turned over to the charity cause for years but this time Huddersfield – the company’s second biggest call centre – will take part too.

Bosses asked for 100 volunteers from staff in Huddersfield and Leeds – and places were over-subscribed.

LV=’s Huddersfield call centre, which has 300 staff on site, will be taken over by Children in Need on Friday, November 13.

There will be 75 phone lines coming in and calls will be taken between 6pm and 11pm.

LV= spokesman May Ramadan, co-chairman of the firm’s community and well-being committee, said it was the first time Huddersfield had been involved in the campaign and added: “We’re all very excited about it.

“We’re still working out the logistics of it all but we are planning to put on tea, coffee and pizza for the volunteers and Pudsey Bear will be coming too.

“We’ll also be doing some fundraising ourselves during the day with staff in fancy dress.”
