CHILDREN have been rewarded with cash to make their ideas for more playtime fun happen.

Youngsters at Crossley Fields Junior and Infant School, in Wellhouse Lane, Mirfield, complained they had nothing to do at playtime.

So they came up with some ideas of how to make things more fun and sent a video to Kids Count, a project run by council department Involving Young Citizens Equally (Iyce).

The project offers groups of children up to £1,000 if they can come up with an idea to benefit the community.

The £1,000 award will go towards play equipment for the children.

Ruth Brabiner, grants officer at IYCE, said: "Kids Count offers children a unique opportunity to use their own ideas to enhance the community and put them into practice.

"We are currently inviting more groups of children across Kirklees to apply for their own grants and run their own schemes.

"We welcome applications made using a variety of methods. Children can apply by tape, video, storyboard, pictures, application form or by an interview with a member of the Iyce team."
