CHILDREN'S author Jonathan Stroud visited Huddersfield Grammar School.

Mr Stroud, author of the popular Bartimeus Trilogy, spent the day with Year 7 and 8 pupils.

The Bedforn-born author explained how he began writing books. He also talked about the Bartimeus Trilogy, which focuses on young magician's apprentice Nathaniel and chaotic genie Bartimeus.

He answered pupils' questions and helped them think of their own fictional characters.

The visit was arranged by The Children's Bookshop at Lindley.

Julie Rodgers, the school's head of English, said: "It is always enjoyable for young people to meet someone they have heard of in the flesh. It also plays a part in encouraging them to read."
