THE Chinese Consul General is to visit Huddersfield University next Wednesday.

Mr Gong Jianzhong is to attend the British launch of the Career Opportunity Partnerships Scheme (Cops) at the university.

The event will be his second visit to the university.

He was there less than a year ago, to present award to Chinese members of staff.

The Cops plan aims to create work opportunities with British companies operating in China for Chinese graduates from 10 universities in the North of England.

It was the brainchild of Huddersfield University's Vice-Chancellor, Prof John Tarrant.

Holset Engineering, of Turnbridge, was the first company to take part in the scheme.

Chinese students from universities across the North became graduate trainees at the company's plant in Wuxi, in the Jiangsu region of China.

Other firms are being invited to join.

Any firm that would like to attend the launch should phone Rachel Perry in the university's International Office on 01484 472219.
