A man assaulted his bride-to-be after she barged into the bathroom as he took a shower, a court heard.

Christopher Haigh flew into a temper after Tanya Bruszniewski tried to turn his loud music down.

He admitted assault when he appeared at Kirklees Magistrates’ Court and said he was seeking help with his anger issue.

James Weekes, prosecuting, said that the offence happened on October 12.

The couple had met in January and moved in together soon afterwards before getting engaged. However, the relationship then turned sour and the pair started to argue on a regular basis.

Haigh, 22, then lost his job and as he spent more time at home their fights became physical.

Miss Bruszniewski admitted grabbing Haigh and in September she reported to police that she had been punched by him.

On October 12 she wanted to go into the bathroom at the home they shared in Linthwaite to fetch some tissues.

Mr Weekes said: “The door was locked and she began banging on the door. He could not hear her because he had music playing (but) after five minutes he opened the door.”

Magistrates heard that she walked in and when she tried to turn the music down Haigh hit her arm.

Miss Bruszniewski hit him back and with a clenched fist he struck her in the face. This caused an inch-long gash below her eyebrow and her nose began to bleed.

Ian Whiteley, mitigating, said: “He’s referred himself to domestic violence and anger management sessions – he’s realised there’s an issue here.”

Magistrates adjourned sentencing until November 14 as a full report on Haigh, now of Springfield Avenue in Slaithwaite, is needed.

He was banned from contacting Miss Bruszniewski or going to her Holyoake Terrace address as part of his bail conditions.
