A SOUND system has been installed in a church at the heart of a Huddersfield community.

Freemasons based in Kirkburton contributed £500 to the cost of the system.

The sound system - including microphones, loudspeakers and a loop system for the hard of hearing - has been installed at St Paul's Methodist Church on Wakefield Road in Dalton.

The system cost £3,400 and masons from Brooke Lodge in Kirkburton contributed £500 to the cost in the church's well-used community building.

Kirklees Council donated £500 to the cost of the system in the church and the rest of the money came from a bequest by a church member.

The church's property secretary, Bob Turton, said: "The community building is extremely well used by all kinds of groups and we are very grateful to the masons for helping us to provide this service to local people.

"The money they donated has been a big help."

Groups using the building range from mums and tots through to a luncheon club, sequence dancing, a drama group, yoga classes, three hiking clubs and Huddersfield Society for the Blind.

"It is a very busy building," said Mr Turton.
