ALMOST 70 untaxed cars have been clamped in Huddersfield in just five days.

Four were clamped on one Fartown street alone.

Traffic wardens and clamping teams swooped across the town to take action against the illegal vehicles.

Some were towed away and others clamped at the roadside.

The drivers had to pay an £80 release fee plus a £120 surety fee or prove they had bought a valid tax disc to get the clamps removed.

Cars taken to a compound in Barnsley will be charged a further £15 a day for storage.

If they are not claimed within 14 days, they will be crushed.
