FORMER Post Office worker Ada Towers has celebrated her 103rd birthday.
One of 11 children, Dewsbury-born Ada left West Yorkshire to move to Mexborough in South Yorkshire when she was 16.
A Post Office worker, she was married to train driver William in 1931 and had one daughter Jean, who sadly died in 2000.
After marrying she became a housewife but she was widowed at 49 and so decided to return to the Post Office, even working delivering the post when the office was short staffed.
A keen gardener, she lived an active life and continued to work on her one-acre plot until the age of 90.
She enjoyed travelling, especially walking in the Peak District and exploring the Yorkshire coast.
Ada, who has two grandchildren and four great-grandchildren, enjoyed a party at Aden Court Care Home in Clayton West.
Her party was a double celebration for the family as her son-in-law, Gerald Athay, hit his own landmark of 80 the previous day.
