A TOWN’S bus station has been saved from closure.

Metro had planned to shut Cleckheaton Bus Station to save money.

But the transport body has reversed the decision after pressure from residents.

Clr Andrew Pinnock, who represents Cleckheaton on Kirklees Council, welcomed the U-turn.

The Lib Dem said: “A great deal of time and effort went into getting the bus station built in Cleckheaton in 2005 and I am very happy that it has been saved for now.

“The public responded to the petition we ran and there is no doubt that this had an impact.”

Metro decided on February 11 to come up with the £25,000 needed to run the bus station in 2011/12.
