YOUNGSTERS who care about the environment are being urged to enter a climate change competition.

The Department for the Environment, Food and Rural Affairs is running a Yorkshire-wide competition to find young climate change champions for 2007.

Youngsters aged 11 to 18 can enter, but there are only days left to get entry forms in to be in with a chance of winning.

Winners will spend a year in office as a climate champion and will speak to groups about how people can reduce their carbon footprints and tackle climate change through simple steps.

They will meet with Government ministers to share their ideas on climate change and will go on a European fact-finding expedition to see the effects of the problem.

The winner will get £1,000 to organise a climate change themed event in their school, college or community.

They will also get a digital camera to record their experiences.

Entries must be in by December 3. They will be judged by a panel of experts and those shortlisted will be invited to London for an interview.

The winners will begin their roles in February.
