A high-tech climbing wall has now been installed at Huddersfield’s £36m new Leisure Centre.

And the finishing touches are being added to the sports halls with work now underway on a children’s play area for the Castlegate centre.

Kirklees Council is now working towards a public opening of early summer, not May 4 which is reported in a public council agenda ahead of next week’s Cabinet, where councillors will be asked to agree parking tariffs for the sports centre car park and the nearby Springwood car park.

Clr Peter O’Neill, Kirklees Council Cabinet Member for Communities, said: “The climbing wall is complete and sports hall floors are ready with the seating areas being finalised.

“The building work has offered many training opportunities to local people in apprenticeships and a total of 256 apprentice weeks have been provided on site.”
