ADMINISTRATORS for collapsed retailer Clinton Cards have announced the closure of a further 122 shops – with the loss of about 900 jobs.

Branches at Birstall Shopping Park, Bradford and Leeds are among the casualties announced by administrator Zolfo Cooper.

Clinton Cards, the UK’s biggest specialist cards retailer, fell into administration last month.

Almost 400 stores, including ones at New Street and Kingsgate in Huddersfield, were sold earlier this month to Ohio-based American Greetings, which has its UK headquarters in Dewsbury.

But 330 stores were not included in the sale and remained under the control of the administrators.

Some 43 of these stores were closed last week and now another 122 are to be axed. The stores comprise 110 Clinton outlets and 12 Birthdays-branded stores. Trading in those stores will cease next Thursday .

Zolfo Cooper said the administrators continued to welcome interest from potential buyers for the remaining unsold stores.
