A SENIOR Tory will be the next Mayor of Kirklees.

Clr Andrew Palfreeman will be nominated for the top post at a Kirklees Council meeting on May 26.

He has been on the council since 1992, serving two spells as leader of the Conservative group.

Clr Palfreeman was born in Batley and has lived in Birkenshaw all his life. Liz, his wife of 31 years, will serve as Mayoress. The couple have one son, Mark, aged 26.

Clr Palfreeman has served as Deputy Mayor for the last year.

Dewsbury East Labour man Clr Eric Firth will be nominated as Deputy Mayor at next month’s meeting.
