COME and join us. That was the offer today from a Holme Valley bowling club which is appealing for new members.

And they hope the invitation will be taken up by young people.

Brockholes Bowling Club is holding an open evening on Friday, February 6, for Honley and Brockholes residents to learn what facilities are available.

Club secretary Pam Hampshire said that everybody was welcome to join - even if they aren't particularly interested in bowling.

For those who are bowling enthusiasts the club runs a wide range of competitive teams, including those in veterans, Ladies' and Junior leagues.

"Attracting youngsters to a fascinating game, which can bring big rewards for top players, is one of our main aims," she said.

"We provide coaching for beginners.

"We've a lot more to offer than trundling woods on a patch of grass, with a wooden hut at the side.

"We have a modern, attractive, well-furnished licensed clubhouse and organise a wide range of social activities that include quiz and race nights, whist drives and indoor bowls.

"We cater for all ages from nine to 90-plus," said Mrs Hampshire.
