A SOCIAL group is giving people a new lease of life.

The Halifax and Huddersfield Intervarsity Club is offering people the chance to meet like-minded people and get out and about.

For Christine Foster it provided her with a social life after losing her husband David.

She joined the club in 2000 and has not looked back since.

The Cleckheaton town hall receptionist said: “The first night I went I felt that it was the right decision to make. At first it can seem quite daunting, but everyone was so friendly and welcoming.

“It’s like one big family. If anyone is feeling lonely and wants to get out they should come along.”

Gail Musgrove joined the group after her grown up children flew the nest.

She said: “I think I was feeling lost and lonely and I was looking for somewhere to go where I could meet new people.

“I have been here for about nine months now and haven’t looked back.

“It’s a good way to make new friends.”

The sociable group is for people aged over 30. It holds regular trips to the theatre, cinema, bowling, restaurants and pubs, walks and weekends away.

New members are also able to suggest ideas for activities for the club’s 64 members.

The club meets at the Grey Horse pub in Birchencliffe at 8pm each Wednesday.

Social activities are arranged throughout the week for people to take part in if they want to.
