ELLAND and District Probus Club has chosen Mr Joe Braithwaite as its new president.
Mr Braithwaite, 60, is the former boss of hauliers J Braithwaite, of Elland.
He has been a member of Probus for three years.
A widower, he has two grown-up children. His daughter Alison lives in Scotland, while son Mark, is a police Chief Superintendent in Middlesbrough.
He has four grandchildren.
Mr Braithwaite is a deacon at Blackley Baptist Church and secretary of its property and finance committee.
He is also chairman of the Elland and District Community Association. He succeeds Clifford Lord in the Probus post.
Elland and District Probus Club meets fortnightly on a Tuesday at the town's Working Men's Club in Roseberry Street.
