Club wins grant to beat the vandals

A HUDDERSFIELD sports club has been given a grant to help beat the vandals.

A HUDDERSFIELD sports club has been given a grant to help beat the vandals.

Nuffield Cricket Club in Birkby has secured £8,763 of funding to tighten its security.

The money has come from the SITA Trust, and will be used to build fencing around the area and add seating for spectators. In 2009 the well-established club developed a youth academy, supported by local businesses and Kirklees Council, but since then it has suffered from persistent criminal damage.

The site is unlit and unfenced and has attracted vandals.

Club officials hope that higher levels of security will discourage vandals from targeting the area.
