THE Co-op is looking for local people to have a say in how the business is run.

Owned by its members, it has a West Yorkshire area committee to advise on its operations and how it supports communities.

Each year a portion of the area committee’s members seek re-election, which offers an opportunity for new members to join.

Members can nominate themselves if they had at least 250 membership points in 2012 and have been a member for at least 12 months.

Karen Froggatt, acting regional secretary, said: “This is an extremely exciting time to be involved in The Co-operative and the elections present members with a great opportunity to make a difference in the area.

“From feeding back experiences of the business at monthly meetings, reviewing trading data, attending events throughout the year and helping to select community groups to receive funding, the role of a committee member is so varied.

“We always welcome applications from new people with fresh ideas.”

Elected members receive a fee and must attend monthly meetings.

Nominations are open until May 13. To find out more e-mail membership.north@ co-operative.coop or call 0191 411 2344.
