LABOUR and the Lib-Dems have ended their coalition which has run Calderdale Council for the past three years.

Labour leaders last night pulled the plug on the deal.

And it is believed the Government’s benefit cuts are at the heart of the disagreement.

The split, revealed only hours before last night’s Calderdale Council meeting, leaves the authority facing uncertainty.

Labour has 21 seats but no overall majority to vote through controversial issues without major opposition. They formed a coalition with the 11 Lib Dem members after the 2010 election.

The Calderdale Conservative Party has 17 members, with two Independent councillors completing the council.
