Coffee and cake? That’ll be £100, please!

Huddersfield-based business networking group Coffee & Cake has been handed over to be managed by a new team – in exchange for a £100 donation to Kirkwood Hospice .

The group was set up in April, 2012, by Michelle Hodgson, director of Key Words Copywriting Ltd, and meets on the third Thursday of every month at Café Society in Byram Street in Huddersfield.

The meetings include open networking followed by a Q&A session with a business expert. Speakers have covered topics as diverse as apprenticeships, social media, pricing and business development.

Now after four years running Coffee & Cake, Michelle is stepping down to focus on her own copywriting business and her role as festival director of the Huddersfield Literature Festival .

But rather than close down the group, she has handed it over to be run by a new team in exchange for a £100 donation to the hospice at Dalto n.

From June, the networking group will be jointly run by Paul Clarke, owner of sales strategy and growth coaching specialist Boston Clarke, and Katie Brierley and Oliver Schofield, a husband and wife team who run bespoke cake-making business Oliver James Sugarcraft , based at Denby Dale.

All three have regularly attended Coffee & Cake meetings and have exciting plans for taking the networking group forward. Said Michelle: “Setting up and running Coffee & Cake has been a wonderfully rewarding experience and I’m delighted it will be continuing ‘under new management’. I’m sure it will go on to further success under the direction of Paul, Katie and Oliver, in partnership with Eaton Smith and I look forward to attending as a guest.”

Kate Booth , of Huddersfield law firms Eaton Smith, which supports the networking events, said: “I’m glad that this enjoyable event is continuing and look forward to partnering with the new management team who already have exciting plans to engage with the Coffee &Cake network through social media.”

Paul said: “I have really enjoyed the meetings and the speakers at Coffee & Cake. It seemed a shame to let it lapse and so I talked to Oliver and Katie and we decided to keep it going.”

The next Coffee & Cake meeting will be held at 4.30pm on Thursday, June 16, at Café Society.
