A TEAM from Shelley College won through to a regional final of a young enterprise competition.

The sixth-form students had set up a company called Picture Perfect Designs to give them an insight into the practical problems of running a business.

The company, formed through the Young Enterprise Company Programme Scheme, sells cards and personalised keyrings and has made a profit.

The youngsters were helped by teacher Miss Louise Ashton, from the school’s business department, and business adviser Colin Hand.

They won the competition’s Kirklees and Wakefield final, in which they had to submit their report, set up a stand for their business and give a presentation to several successful businessmen.

They then won the Yorkshire final in Bradford, winning a chauffeur-driven meal out at a restaurant.

They made it through to the Yorkshire and Humberside final in Hull.

Miss Ashton said: “They did a fantastic presentation and handled themselves extremely well in front of the judges and guests, but did not get through to the next stage.

“As a school we are very proud of their wonderful achievements.’’

The team was Anam Abid, Jodie Earnshaw, Andrew Windle, Charlotte Metcalfe, Chris Haworth and Emily Calvert.
