DEFEATED election candidate Maggie Throup won't be making another challenge in Colne Valley.

She's been chosen to represent the Tories in Solihull at the next General Election.

The selection comes just two months after the 48-year-old businesswoman ran Labour MP Kali Mountford close in the Colne Valley election contest.

Ms Throup left her opponent clinging on with a majority of 1,501 as the vote swung 3.4% from Labour to the Conservatives.

But she won't be back at the next contest.

Ms Throup said: "I will now devote myself to campaigning for the people of Solihull."

Originally from Shipley, Ms Throup has lived in Solihull for 18 years.

In the May election, the Lib Dems' Lorely Burt beat Tory MP John Taylor by 279 votes.

The Conservatives had held Solihull ever since the seat was created 60 years ago and Mr Taylor had been MP for 22 years.

Ms Throup said: "I'll be bringing energy and enthusiasm into the task of winning the seat back for the Conservatives."

Her move was greeted with surprise by one of her Colne Valley candidates in May's election.

Elisabeth Wilson, who stood for the Liberal Democrats, said: "Only a matter of weeks ago Ms Throup was indicating in the local media that she was planning to stay in Colne Valley.

"Now she has disappeared at the first opportunity."
