A VILLAGE traders' group has launched a campaign to recruit more members and promote the area more widely.

A display board has been put together to promote the benefits of joining the Slaithwaite Business Association.

Organisers hope that increasing membership - currently 20 - will give them a stronger voice when it comes to debating local issues with Kirklees Council and other groups.

The association also aims to play a part in drumming up trade by holding special events and improving the appearance of the village.

A newsletter is also planned.

The display board gives details of association members and outlines the organisation's aims and activities.

It is on display at the Churches Together charity shop on Britannia Road.

Publicity officer Gordon Brook said: "Mills up and down the valley are being converted into attractive homes, which will see an influx of people into the area.

"The village should seize this opportunity to make newcomers and existing residents aware of what we have to offer."
