VETERAN comedian Jimmy Cricket is coming to Huddersfield for a charity gig.

The 60-year-old Irishman will be at the St Patrick's Centre in Huddersfield on Saturday, January 28. The event has been organised by Brook Motors Social Club.

Proceeds will go to the spinal unit at Pinderfields Hospital in Wakefield and the Multiple Sclerosis Society.

It event starts at 7.30pm and also includes a buffet, disco, auction and raffle.

Tickets cost £7 and the event starts at 7.30pm.

Jimmy, who lives in Rochdale, is now in pantomime at Weston Supermare, playing the part of Buttons in Cinderella.

As a child he would go with his father to the Grand Opera House in Belfast to see stars such as Lonnie Donegan, Max Bygraves and Dave Whitfield.

He first started in showbusiness as a Butlin's redcoat in 1966 and later joined Pontin's as a bluecoat. In 1981 he reached the final of TV talent programme Search For A Star.

Further success on TV and radio followed and since 1983 he has headlined more than 22 pantomime productions in the UK.
