THOUSANDS of British Greenpeace supporters were left out of pocket after a computer glitch, it has emerged.

Around 10,000 donors who give by direct debit saw their bank accounts charged a hundred times the usual amount.

The charity spotted the error immediately yesterday morning and said everyone would get their money back by January 3, the time banks would take to process the reimbursements.

It has also promised to refund any overdraft fees or other penalty charges imposed as a result of the mistake.

John Sauven, a Greenpeace director, said those hit would normally pay up to £10 a month. The average amount was £2 or £3.
