A CLUB stewardess was robbed by a doorstep trickster.
The 34-year-old victim answered a knock on the door to the residential part of Marsden Conservative Club at Victoria Street in Marsden at 2pm on Wednesday .
He said "gas meter" and she let him in, presuming he was there to read the meter.
But once inside he demanded cash and grabbed her by the throat. She broke free and banged her face when he knocked her out of the way.
The intruder escaped with cash.
Pc Dave McSweeney, of Huddersfield police, said: "This man may have tried to trick his way into other homes or businesses in Marsden. Did anyone see him?"
The thief is decribed as a mixed-race African- Caribbean man in his early 20s, 6ft with short black hair. He wore a green jacket and white trainers.
