HUDDERSFIELD YMCA has a top-line sponsor for next month's annual Concert on the Hill.
The Kingsgate shopping centre is backing this year's event - on Saturday, July 3 - with manager Jonathan Hardy having a particular affinity with the YMCA and the concert.
For he has played rugby union with the Laund Hill, Salendine Nook, club for more than 20 years, most recently with the Veterans, at fly-half.
He has now retired with a problematic back - "most likely caused by a problematic forward," said YMCA spokesman Gary Haigh.
Mr Hardy said: "Kingsgate are always keen to get involved with local events, and where possible we like to put something towards supporting local initiatives.
"With so many local people taking part in the concert, there are many good reasons for sponsoring it," added Mr Hardy.
This year's concert - the fifth - features Colne Valley and Honley male voice choirs, Lindley Band and soloist soprano Nemone Wilman.
There will also be a fireworks finale.
Mr Hardy admits to having a long-standing interest in brass band music, playing the trumpet at school.
He added: "I'm looking forward to attending the concert next month and I shall be keeping my fingers crossed for fine weather.
"But I promise I will not be playing any instrumental solos!"
YMCA organisers are promising to include one or two special little interludes this year, including a D-Day tribute, as part of the musical programme.
Tickets are available by contacting the clubhouse at Laund Hill on 01484 654052 or YMCA officials.
