SCHOOLBOY Connor McLeod is to make his big stage debut as the Artful Dodger.

The 11-year-old has landed the role in Oliver at the Victoria Theatre in Halifax.

But Connor, of Skelmanthorpe, is no stranger to the limelight. The Kirkburton Middle School pupil has already appeared in television commercials and the BBC drama Spoilt.

He said: "I was really pleased when I got the part because the Artful Dodger is my favourite character.

"At the audition I had to sing a song from the show and read some lines. Since I got the part I have been rehearsing a lot at home with my mum and dad.

"I am really excited about getting started now but I am not that nervous. I think I will do fine."

The Halifax Operatic Society performance of the classic novel kicks off on April 5 and runs until April 9. For ticket details contact the box office on 01422 351158.
