Army bomb disposal experts carried out a controlled explosion after a World War Two relic was found at a house in Brighouse.

Police were called to the house in Woodhouse Lane at 4.13pm yesterday after a device was found in the garage.

The item was believed to be a mortar detonator.

A spokesman for West Yorkshire Police said: “Photographs of the eight inch tall device were sent to Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD), who confirmed it was not live and would be suitable to remain where it was overnight.

“EOD staff attended this morning to collect the device and took it away to a nearby location, where a controlled explosion was carried out.”
