A convicted rapist has been detained in Blackpool after detectives warned of the risk posed to women and girls.

Malcolm Millman, 58, was detained under the Mental Health Act after being tracked down in the popular seaside resort at 8.30pm last night.

He will be returned to secure accommodation.

Millman, 58, absconded during a day visit to a monastery in Milton Keynes, on Saturday, 24 October.

He failed to return to Chadwick Lodge, a secure facility in Milton Keynes, whose care he was under.

He travelled to Manchester via Leeds, where he was seen walking along the platform at Manchester Airport railway station last Monday.

Headteachers at all Manchester schools were put on alert by a letter from Manchester council warning them to be on the lookout.

Hospital, pharmacies, and GP surgeries were also advised to be alert as the missing man was not believed to have access to medication for various health conditions.

Senior Investigating Officer DCI Kevin Brown, from Thames Valley Police’s Major Crime unit, said: “I would like to thank officers and members of the public across the country for their help in locating Millman.

“This has been a complex search operation involving many agencies working together and I am pleased it has now successfully concluded and Millman is detained.”
