TONNES of rubbish have been cleared from gardens in Huddersfield.

Kirklees Council removed sofas, TVs, chairs and mattresses from Dalton.

Saturday’s clean-up netted 25 tonnes of bulky waste from 250 homes in the Town and Spring Bank estates in the Leeds Road area

Clr Liz Smaje, the cabinet member for neighbourhood services, said: “The action day was a real success with both residents and key council services working together.”

The clean-up was part of the Rawthorpe and Dalton Neighbourhood Management Partnership Board’s plan to improve the local area.

Kirklees Council, the police, and Kirklees Neighbourhood Housing were all involved in the effort.

Further action days are planned in other parts of Dalton on March 16 and 29.

Dumping rubbish in gardens is an offence under the Environmental Protection Act and can result in fines up to £2,500.

The council’s free bulky waste collection number is 01484 414 700.
