VULNERABLE children have a new way of receiving advice, help and information thanks to mobile phones.
The new text messaging service has just been set up to improve the link between youngsters and Kirklees Council's Social Services department.
Eight young people aged between 13 and 21 were handed free phones this week to access the service.
Other youngsters already with handsets can text the word 'register' to 07800 002428 for the free service detailing events, gigs, life advice, workshops and education.
The scheme is the first of its kind in the country.
The Children's Right Service is running the scheme.
The free phones were bought by the Neighbourhood Renewal Fund.
A spokeswoman for the Children's Rights Service said: "We hope to carry on receiving quality feedback from young people so we can constantly be improving the service and delivering the information young people need."
By November youngsters should have the facility to text back.
